Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I begin?
- Email me and attach your resume or call if you have any questions. After your resume is reviewed, I will call and give you my feedback and suggestions.
What can I use my coaching session for after the resume is done?
- You may want to change jobs; prepare for performance review, write a Self Assessment; negotiate a salary increase; want input on how to handle a politically charged situation; choose or change educational direction, find a network for your “second career” or talk over a work situation that has been bothering you.
Is there room for negotiation on a severance package? Can someone review it for me?
- Yes, and you should have an attorney review it too. As a career coach I look for things that fall outside the legal realm, like covering the cost of outplacement career services which could include transition coaching, resume writing, job search information and interviewing skills. This can be a valuable part of one’s exit package.
I’m retiring from a career that I’ve worked at for over twenty-five years. I want to continue working in another type of job, maybe part-time, but I’m not sure of my options. Can you help?
- America is looking at an unprecedented shortage of workers and a mass depletion of institutional knowledge as 77 million Baby Boomers begin to exit the workforce over the next the ten years. Smart companies have already started to take a long and thoughtful look at the over 55 workers who have been previously dismissed, currently misunderstood and consequently overlooked. Employers are beginning to see these workers as a generational gift for a workforce that is rapidly losing their younger replacements. If you are self-motivated, self reliant and have a strong work ethic you should move to the front of the line now! Let’s talk about how to put your experience back to work.
I’ve been home raising three children for the past eleven years. I was an early childhood educator, now that I’m ready to return to workforce, I find myself wanting to do something entirely different. What do I do now? My credentials are in education!
- You may not realize it but you have amassed a tremendous amount of skill and experience running a home, raising children and managing their schedules. Did you do any volunteer work with the PTA, cookie sales, or work on the yearbook? What about managing the finances of the home, paying the bills, running the household budget. Did you help plan or oversee a renovation or the building of your new home or add-on? I think you would be very surprised to learn how marketable you are and I haven’t even touched on your interests, hobbies and passions or things you might just have a natural talent for. All of this experience has broadened your scope, expanded your skill set and yes, made you a different person than you were eleven years ago and richer for the experience . . . a lot richer.
